It also vacuums up small particles like flour very well. For a large particle test, we crushed up crackers. It got most of the pieces, but some larger parts didn't fit underneath. Pet hair was sucked up easily. On the hard flooring, small particles like flour were immediately cleaned up. Remember to turn off the brush bar for hard floors. For larger particles, a lot of the pieces didn't fit under the vacuum. The Dyson DC24 Ball just pushed these cracker pieces instead of cleaning them. The on board tools are accessed by taking off the reversible wand, turning it around and clipping it back on. It reaches the ceiling easily. We also could clean up to six stairs without having to move the vacuum. You can also clean by just using the hose. It did a nice job on stairs and upholstery. The DC24 filters out all of the dust it sucks up. Our Decibel reader registered between 70 to 75 decibels, which is quieter than a normal vacuum. The suction was above average at 80 inches of water. Maintenance involves two different things. First, you need to empty the dust-bin by taking it off the vacuum and opening it up over a trash can. There are two filters. Just got this today as I couldn't be bothered to fix the Dyson DC04 (its motor burnt out after 7 years good service) I have been researching a new vacuum cleaner and thought on getting a Dyson upright again as I prefer Dyson as have used Dyson for years. I did not want another bulky Dyson upright again as I didn't like how heavy the DC04 was and it was very bulky. I really notice this now when I compare it to the DC24. The DC24 was cheaper on Amazon and they delivered very quick (Amazon is always very good) I unpacked the machine and tried it out. Its a very good vacuum cleaner with very good suction for the motor watts, 650W with 120 Air watts, the older DC03 I used to use up until 2002 had 700 Watts with 90 Air Watts so this is an improvment. The DC24 feels very good on carpets and the suction is strong and the brush grooms the carpet, it feels better than the DC04. The only thing I dislike about this machine is that the hose is very short, but then you can put the machine on the step and use the hose, the machine sits on the step nicely. The Combi tool is a bit of a joke as its not very good for stairs but will do until I purchase the DC25 stair tool for it. The cord is very short so I have to unplug and plug in more, the DC04 had a very long cable in relation to the DC24. The machine is nice and quiet and its only the brush motor that makes any real noise but its still a lot quieter than the DC04. The DC24 feels better built. The only issue is that sometimes the ...

Getting the Best Results

• This vacuum cleaner creates suction and contains a revolving brush roll. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts.

• Do not place vacuum cleaner on furniture or stairs as the brush roll may cause damage. Use extra care when cleaning on stairs. Place vacuum cleaner on floor with the handle in storage position while using attachments.

• Do not use without dust bag, motor filter and HEPA filter in place.

• Remove hair and threads from brush roll periodically.

• This vacuum cleaner has a special thermostat that protects the vacuum in case of motor overheating. If the vacuum suddenly shuts off, push the power switch to off and unplug the vacuum. Check the vacuum for a possible source of overheating such as a full dust bag, blocked hose, clogged tubes or clogged filter. If these conditions are found, fix them and wait at least 30 minutes before attempting to use the vacuum. After the 30 minute period, plug the vacuum back in and turn on the switch.

Easy Cleaning Steps

1. For bare floor cleaning, push brush roll control lever firmly to lock in ‘bare floor’setting to stop brush roll.
2. Turn height adjustment knob to bare floor position.
3. If brush roll still rotates, control lever is not engaged properly.
4. Loosen hose end from back of vacuum.
5. Place tool on end of wand or hose.

Dyson DC04 Motor burn out

My Dyson DC04 motor burnt out yesterday after 7 years of use. I started the vacuum and vacuumed for around 20 seconds and then there was a loud noise and an electrical smell and smoke coming out of it!! Here is s video showing what it is doing now - not very much just screaming away and smelling very bad. I will need to buy a new motor next week and put it in the machine myself - looks like the post motor filter will need changing too. Good thing I got Dyson to send me a spare one 2 years ago and I didnt pay for it either. This machine has been very reliable for the 7 years its been in use and to be honest it has been used a lot in the house and in the car a few times in the 7 years. So far the machine has had a new clutch when brand new as the original one was noisy , a new wand handle and 2 x stair tools and the whole duct changed over which I changed myself apart from that everything else has been ok just now its completely gone. Will be cheaper to get a new motor than buy a new one.
